What it is all about?

Do you need a food handling certificate for your summer job? Get it done now so you’re job ready ahead of the summer break.

This unit is nationally accredited as SITXFSA101 Use hygienic practices for food safety.

This six-hour food-handling course has been designed for employees and volunteers involved in food preparation and provides basic hygiene principles for all food handlers.

The food-handling course allows you to work in bars and restaurants and any other venues which require the handling of food. In you need a responsbile service of alcohol certificate or first aid, we offer those too.

There’s no pre-work or courses to before you sign up for this food handling course.

What will we cover?

During the training the learners will complete a practical activity, preparing and serving a Devonshire Tea and cleaning up afterwards.  While making and serving Devonshire Tea, each learner will be assessed for successfully completing practical tasks, such as cleaning benches, cleaning and tiding the kitchen, storing unused foodstuffs, checking temperatures and washing hands.

  • Minimum age 16
  • Learners are required to attend dressed as though they were working in a café on the day
  • Neat clothing and covered shoes are essential
  • Please bring a note pad and pen.

Training staff and managers in hygiene best practices is an important step to developing a culture of food safety. Failing to do so increases the risk of food contamination and the public’s poor health. In turn, this can lead to customer dissatisfaction, potentially huge legal costs and the loss of your good reputation and market share.

Our six-hour food handling course has been designed for people involved in food preparation and provides basic hygiene principles for all food handlers. This course is for people wanting to work as food handling personnel, food safety supervisors working in tourism, and hospitality and catering organisations with permanent or temporary kitchen premises, smaller food preparation or bar areas.

Employees benefit from the food handling course by gaining knowledge and skills when dealing with food preparation. Employers benefit also by making sure all staff have done the food handling course and have the right food safety skills and knowledge. This is not only a legal requirement but also good for business.
