About the Event
What's it all about?
Drumming is all about fun and friendship. It’s also about the amazement and joy that comes from putting together some very simple rhythms - that anyone who can clap or tap can do - and hearing the beautiful sounds emerging of West African Drumming.
The techniques and rhythms you will learn during each session have been passed from master to master. All the drums have been built under the guidance of Simone Lang, with carved wooden shells from Africa, rope and goat skins.
This four week short course will fill you with awe and inspiration as this incredible tradition has been kept alive for hundreds of years, from African villages to Australian Neighbourhood Houses.
The West African Drum Group is tailored to people from age 10 (dependent on skill and maturity) to adult. Children under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.
Who will be leading the session?
Ness has been playing with Simone Lang and The Newham Drummers for 8 years and has enjoyed every minute of it!
