Mahjong for Beginners (Term 4 2026)

What's it all about?

Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy and calculation, with an element of chance. It is played in groups of four using a set of tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols.

For new players, we are offering a beginners course in Term 4, running over 9 weeks.

The first two weeks will be held on Wednesday mornings and will focus on structured, supervised game play. After this, the beginners table will join the regular Tuesday afternoon group for a further seven weeks (noting the specific dates below).

Term 4 2026 Information

Mahjong for Beginners will run for 9 sessions as follows:

• Wednesday 7th and 14th October - 10.00am to 12.00noon (2 weeks)

• Tuesday 20th and 27th October, 10th November - 12.30pm - 3pm (3 weeks)

• Monday 16th November - 12.30pm - 3pm (1 week)

• Tuesday 24th November, 1st and 8th December - 12.30pm - 3pm (3 weeks)

The cost for the 9-week term is $45, covering 9 sessions. This equates to $5 per session.

The beginners course will run once we have four confirmed players.

Please register your interest via our website. Payment can then be made in person once the class is confirmed.

Payment can be made online or in person at the Woodend Neighbourhood House.
