About the Event
What's it all about?
Cantonese is one of the most widely spoken Chinese languages worldwide.
Cantonese is not only the primary day-to-day language of the majority of Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong Province, the Southern part of China, but also widely used in Chinese communities, as well as in South-East Asia, the United States, Canada, parts of Europe and other countries.
The class targets beginners who have not learned any Chinese before, as well as those that have learned some Chinese before.
What will the class cover?
Written Chinese is not a combination of letters, but ideograms. Each character represents a syllable of spoken Chinese. Historically, traditional Chinese has been using in places including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as well as in many overseas Chinese communities. The class will teach Traditional Chinese, which has more strokes and can tell the local heritage.
The class will contain pronunciation, Chinese characters, daily-life conversations, vocabulary and structures. Activities and tasks will be designed in class to build up an interest in this language. Chinese culture related activities will also be covered.
Who will be teaching?
Born in Hong Kong, Winnie Chong is a native Cantonese speaker who obtained Hong Kong's official teacher certificate and a professional education diploma in Chinese Language teaching. She studied Chinese Language and Literature as a major during university study.
Having four years of Chinese teaching in secondary schools and some tutoring experiences in teaching Cantonese for children and adults, Winnie is well versed in Chinese teaching and culture. Learn Cantonese classes will not only instruct students on the Chinese language, but also share Chinese culture.
Winnie is fluent in both English and Chinese and has used both languages in casual and business environments.
