About the Event

What's it all about?

Woodend has long been home to many people who work in a home office for at least part of their time, including paid employment, volunteer work, creative/artistic work, committee work etc. Covid pandemic lockdowns forced many people to spend more hours working from home, and the availability and benefits of remote working attracted some city dwellers to relocate to regional areas like the Macedon Ranges.

The hour that we will spend together on 28 February is aimed at guiding local people towards healthier, more comfortable and more functional home working arrangements, compatible with household harmony. Our session leader, Woodend resident and professional ergonomist Mark Hennessy, will take a person-centered approach, examining key challenges to our health and comfort from spending time at a computer workstation. Focusing on common experiences of discomfort and pain from head to toe, Mark will pinpoint common contributing factors, and provide some simple, targeted practical suggestions for participants to try. These may include physical changes or work practice changes.

Mark’s approach will be scientific evidence-based, tuned to the needs of each individual rather than a one-size-fits-all textbook based approach. To make the session more relevant, participants are welcome to email Mark a photo of your home workstation, preferably with someone working at it, to serve as practical examples of successes and opportunities for improvement.

This session is offered as part of our monthly series of Information Sessions known as 'Community Matters'.

Who will be there?

Mark Hennessy is a Woodend resident and professional ergonomist. He can be reached via email on markhennessy@bigpond.com
