Foundations of Acrylic Painting (Term 3 2026)

Under the expert guidance of our art tutor Marilyn, this class is designed for beginners or those wishing to develop their understanding of the foundations of acrylic painting.

Participants will be introduced to the essential techniques, tools, and materials needed to build confidence with the medium. Step-by-step instruction will support you in developing foundational skills, exploring colour mixing, brushwork, and basic composition, while working on individual projects in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

Suggested materials to bring along for the class:

• Canvas board or canvas pad

• Set of acrylic paints and a range of brushes (list available upon request)

• Surface for mixing paint (for example a plastic plate or palette)

• Water container (for example a yoghurt pot or jar)

• Rags or paper towel for cleaning

• Optional: a basic sketchbook and pencil for planning ideas

Who will be teaching?

Marilyn is a local artist with a lifetime of experience in art using porcelain, glass, acrylics, pencils, charcoal, watercolour, oils and pens.

Term 3 2026 Information:

This nine-week course will run on Thursday afternoons from Thursday 23 July until Thursday 17 September between 3.30pm - 5.30pm. The cost for the nine-week term is $180 (2 hour session at $20 each).

If you wish to join the class after the term has begun, our booking system will allow you to book for the remaining classes - assuming there is space.

Please note this class requires a minimum of 5 paid participants to go ahead. If this minimum number is not reached, a full refund will be provided. The workshop will have a maximum of 10 participants.
