About the Event
What's it all about?
Join blacksmith Rob Nansen as you learn the basic techniques of blacksmithing (forging). Each participant will make their own cheese knife to take home.
Blacksmithing (forging) workshops are tailored to people from age 10 (dependant on skill and maturity) to adult.
The workshop will take place in the garden of the Woodend Neighbourhood House (access via the gate next to the Skate Park, off Margery Crescent). Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day, inlcuding long sleeves and long pants that are non-flammable and closed-toe shoes. Please ensure hair is tied back. The Undercroft will be available as a breakout space, with tea and coffee provided, however all participants should bring their own water bottle.
Who will be teaching?
Rob Nansen is an artisan working with iron and wood using traditional hand tools and techniques. Rob has been supporting young people and their families for over 25 years. He has been practicing blacksmithing and bush furniture-making for 17 years. Jesse's Stump combines these two pursuits, often using the crafts as metaphors to share hopeful messages. The experience itself is a restorative and calming one where we unplug from our usual lives.
Rob has a current Victorian Working with Children Check and a current Police Check. He is a qualified Social Worker (BSW RMIT) and is a member of the Australian Blacksmith’s Association (Victoria) and CRAFT Victoria.
Term 1 2024 Information
The Blacksmithing Workshop will run on Saturday 23rd March between 1pm and 4pm. The cost for each partipant is $140.
