This workshop is being held in the Undercoft at the rear of the House, please enter via the garden gate near the skatepark.
Basic bike skills will make you an independent rider. Pulling your bike out of the shed only to discover your planned ride ruined by a flat tyre won’t be a thing after you’ve attended these sessions, nor will gears that won’t/don’t/you can’t change going up hills, or never going down Mt Macedon because you are unsure if you can stop safely or not.
The first session is for those who have never changed an innertube, or are shaky on the techniques required, or who need general familiarisation with bike tasks.
The second session is for those who can do this, but need help with brake servicing and adjustment, and gear maintenance and drivetrain work. Other minor service and repairs can be included on request.
Please bring your own or a relative/friend/acquaintance’s bike that would benefit from some attention.
Please wear clothes suitable for mechanical work and closed-toe shoes.
Mark Horner has been teaching bike skills for 25 years (and other things as well, in schools and TAFEs) for the CAE, Bicycle Training Australia, MU Student Union, et c., to many different people. He has been (and still is) a shop and event (race/ride) mechanic for a slightly shorter time, and rides in the local area (and further afield) on road and trails, on bikes with wheels of different sizes. He owns an orange bakfiets (cargo bike) which he does the shopping on, and likes it a lot.
