About the Event

What's it all about?

Children in Prep to Grade 6 are invited to join Penelope for a joyful creative workshop that celebrates the arrival of the warmer weather.

Together, we’ll explore a vibrant collection of textured and decorated papers, experimenting with different shapes, colours and patterns to design and craft a unique shining sun. Along the way, children will be encouraged to play, imagine and let their creativity shine as brightly as the suns they create.

Inspired by the whimsical work of renowned artist-illustrator Claire Youngs, this hands-on session offers the perfect opportunity to explore new materials, develop artistic confidence, and bring a little extra sunshine into the day.

Who will be leading the session?

Local artist/educator Penelope Cato is eager to share her experience and knowledge with budding young artists. Penelope has an abiding interest in nature, particularly plant life and a love for patterning and Japanese design.

As a multidisciplinary artist, Penelope has a background in design across disciplines and creates imaginative works with aesthetic appeal and subtle layers of meaning.

Her experience directing, inspiring and engaging primary students together with her passion for art make her an asset to our junior artistic community.

Visit Penelope's website or find her on the socials @penelope.cato
