About the Event

What's it all about?

Join us for a practical and creative leatherworking workshop where you’ll make your own personalised leather journal.

In this 6-hour hands-on class, you’ll create a tooled leather cover lined with soft, pre-coloured leather (your choice of colours) for a fully removable A5 journal, diary, or notebook with a magnetic closure.

Each participant will:

  • Cut, design, and tool your leather cover

  • Dye and finish it to your satisfaction

  • Insert magnets and hand-stitch all pieces using your choice of coloured waxed thread

You’ll also learn:

  • Safe tool use and understanding leather differences

  • Tooling, bevelling, and burnishing techniques

  • Saddle stitching and finishing methods

  • Magnet and closure fitting

Materials and tools are provided.

Optional extras (payable via cash on the day):

  • Include a journal for just $8

  • Bring your own conchos, special closures, or decorations (some available for sale on the day)

  • Choose coloured leather kangaroo lacing instead of thread for $2.50 per metre

Who will be leading the class?

Wendy Tonkin is a qualified leatherworker with around eight years of experience. Based in Williamstown, Wendy recently launched her own leatherwork teaching business. She is passionate about empowering people to build confidence and knowledge through hands-on, supportive, and fun learning experiences in community settings.
