Mindfulness is a way of being that counteracts stress by intentionally focusing a person’s attention on the present moment – and accepting it without judgement.
When a person decides to change a long held way of thinking, or worrying, they often encounter resistance. Contrary to suppression or change, mindfulness is based upon acceptance of what is. The aim of mindfulness is to achieve a state of relaxation by paying attention to the present moment without judgement.
Being Mindful is a peaceful way of being in everyday life, it can help you achieve relief from pain, stress, anxiety and other issues that may make life seem harder than it should be.
Mindfulness is both a form of meditation (which is the formal practise) and a way of living with awareness (the informal practise).
The basics in learning to Meditate are incorporated in this course to give people who have never meditated a starting point to help with their Mindfulness Meditation. Every class will start and end with a meditation.
Please wear comfortable clothing, chairs are available but if you wish to sit on the floor a yoga mat, cushions or blanket would be a good idea as the floor is concrete and can be a bit hard and cold. Bring anything you like to be comfortable.
