What it is all about?

This course is for people of all ages who have a desire to accomplish some creative writing. Myron will guide and encourage participants in their endeavours to write fiction, poetry, song lyrics or memoirs.  Suitable for both beginning and experienced writers.

What do I need to bring?

Bring something to write with and something to write on: pen, notebook, laptop, iPad, etc.

What is it all about?

These creative writing sessions are designed to guide, inspire, encourage and prompt participants into writing in the field they wish to pursue, be it a novel, short stories, haiku, flash fiction, memoirs, children books, song lyrics or poetry.
Each week there is a focus on an important aspect of writing, for example:

  • how to write interesting dialogue
  • using power nouns and verbs
  • show and tell
  • plot plans
  • how to write believable characters
  • ways to create tension and suspense
  • narrative distance
  • points of view
  • self-editing: how to write well
  • revision

Who will be teaching?

myron_lysenkoMyron is the author of six books and was a founding editor of the magazine Going Down Swinging. He is a publisher with the small publishing house Hit & Miss and he convenes a spoken word event at The Chamber Art & Coffee House, which takes place on the second Saturday of each month in Woodend. He is also the main lyricist for local band Black Forest Smoke. Myron has conducted writing workshops since 1989 in schools, universities, writing centres, neighbourhood houses, libraries and prisons. He enjoys helping people practice and improve on their writing skills.
