What is it all about?
Wicking beds are self-contained raised garden beds that have built-in reservoirs that supply water from the bottom up making them incredibly water efficient – perfect for Macedon Ranges water restrictions! There’s lots to learn – and things can go wrong, so instead of going at it alone at home come learn how to make and plant successful wicking beds from start to finish.
Once completed wicking beds cannot be moved – this workshop’s wicking beds will be built in the Woodend Neighbourhood House’s front garden.
So come learn why wicking beds are a unique and increasingly popular way to garden sustainably and have your work enjoyed by the Woodend community for years to come!
What will you learn?
- How wicking beds work
- Sustainable garden practices
- Materials – learn about new materials specific to wicking bed success
- Experience hands on construction of wicking beds
- Planting and plant choices
- The importance of companion planting
- Ongoing wicking bed garden care
