#natsciwk National Science Week runs from 13-21 August 2016
To coincide with National Science Week, Woodend Neighbourhood House is launching a brand new after school science program.
“Art Merges Science is a five-week program designed to engage primary school children in STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths,” explained Woodend Neighbourhood House Coordinator, Angela Van Dam.
“During the June school holidays we held a series of STEAM classes which were a huge success; over 100 children from across the Macedon Ranges joined in, and when we surveyed the parents after the classes, everyone said they would recommend them to a friend.”
This new program goes for five weeks from 18 August to 16 September on Thursdays from 4-5.15pm and costs $100.
Each session consists of three parts; explore, investigate and create.
During the classes the children will learn how to; make slime and investigate its potential properties, build their own drawing robot, investigate how rocks and minerals are formed and grow their name in crystals. They’ll also build an articulated model of a human hand, investigate simple machines and design and create a simple mechanical toy.
